An 18-year-old was arrested Monday in connection with a late-night attack on a gay bar in Stockton, California on June 12, the same day as the mass shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub.
Austin Richardson was charged Tuesday with assault with a deadly weapon and committing a hate crime. Police say Richardson fired blue paintball pellets at patrons standing outside the city’s only LGBT nightclub, Paradise.
A 26-year-old woman was hit in the arm and a 27-year-old man was shot in the back.
The group told FOX40 they believe they were targeted because they are gay. The same venue had also been hit with pellets a month earlier.
